The Cost of Commentary: Mikayla Raines

Jealousy. Manipulation. Control. Betrayal.
Trust. Accountability. Bullying. Deceived. Two‑faced. Sacred.

Let’s just start with the real.
Because I’m not sugarcoating a damn thing in this post.

Mikayla Raines, founder of SaveAFox Rescue, is dead. By suicide.
And while everyone is dancing around the “why,” let’s just call it what it is: cyberbullying.
Not a little critique.
Not “light snark.”
Not “just accountability.”
Sustained, targeted harassment that chipped away at a real person until she couldn’t fight anymore.

She rescued foxes, built something beautiful, and gave herself to a mission — only to be met with anonymous cruelty, passive silence, and a platform that let it fester. Mikayla Raines deserved better. This isn’t just a tragic headline. It’s a mirror held up to all of us. […]

Mikayla was no influencer living off brand deals and filters. She was out in the snow building fox enclosures, bottle‑feeding orphaned kits, and running a nonprofit that actually did something. She educated people. She got her USDA and DNR licenses. She gave up a traditional life to save animals the rest of us didn’t even know needed saving—and built a 2.47 million‑subscriber YouTube channel in the process timesofindia.indiatimes.com + 15en.wikipedia.org + 15yahoo.com+15.

But online?
That didn’t matter.

What mattered was her voice.
Her face.
Her quirks.
Her trauma.
Her mental health.
Her past.
It all became content. For what?
For clout. For karma. For keyboard cowards.

And yes—I’m calling Reddit out directly.
The same platform with rules against bullying, harassment, and hate allowed a “snark” subreddit to allegedly target Mikayla for months (now locked, not banned). Like hiding the knife after the stabbing.
But it didn’t stop there. She was reportedly harassed via DMs, Tumblr, Facebook, to name a few—and possibly others in private chats—where attacks kept coming even after hours, even in her inbox.
Reddit’s guidelines are toothless if they aren’t enforced. The platform pretends to protect users while allowing cesspools of cruelty to fester. I’m furious. And you should be too.
Because it’s not just Reddit. It’s all of us.
The silence. The lurking. The passive likes.
We’re so quick to dissect someone else’s life, but slow to show up when it’s falling apart.

On June 20, 2025, Mikayla was found dead by suicide in Faribault, Minnesota—all while allegedly battling depression and autism soyjak.st + 2resetera.com + 2reddit.com +2facebook.com + 6en.wikipedia.org + 6thedailybeast.com+6. In a heartbreaking video on the SaveAFox YouTube channel, her husband shared there had been years of an online bullying campaign, including attacks from people close to her facebook.com + 11en.wikipedia.org + 11soyjak.st+11.

Let’s stop pretending there wasn’t.
Let’s stop clutching our pearls like this is a “tragic mystery.”
The posts were there.
 The Reddit thread was there.
The secret group DMs were there.

And allegedly, people who once stood beside her helped put the knife in.

You want to talk about accountability?

Let’s hold platforms accountable.
Let’s hold users accountable.
Let’s hold ourselves accountable. Because this woman gave her life to something good.
And the internet gave her hell in return.

You can’t “snark” someone into the grave and then act surprised they’re gone.

You can’t weaponize words, sit in digital pews of judgment, and then cry innocence. That’s not critique. That’s blasphemous. There’s nothing sacred about running someone down until they collapse.
There’s nothing honorable in turning trauma into trending content.
If you were part of it—even passively—own that.

Mikayla Raines deserved better.
 She deserved to be here.
She deserved to outlive the noise.

But here we are.
Writing about a woman who saved animals…
While people who’ve never held a leash typed her into the grave.

If you or someone you love is struggling, don’t wait.
Call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. Help is here.

Mikayla’s fight should be our catalyst.
Because this didn’t have to happen.

Let’s be better. It starts now.
