Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
You’ve got to be kidding me!
An 11-year-old in the passenger seat waving a gun. A 13-year-old behind the wheel of a stolen car. Two 15-year-olds in the back—one filming the whole thing. And a grown man—husband, father, physicist—brutally run down in a bike lane at dawn. They laughed. They posted it. They treated it like content.
You’ve got to be kidding me!An 11-year-old in the passenger seat waving a gun. A 13-year-old behind the wheel
This isn’t just misbehavior—it’s murder with a front-facing camera.
Who raised these camera‑ready sociopaths?
Let me say it again, because somehow this world needs repetition:
Scott Dwight Habermehl was murdered.
On May 29, 2024, the 63-year-old scientist and devoted family man was riding his bike to work in Albuquerque—on a designated path—when a stolen car full of minors deliberately swerved and struckhim. They didn’t panic. They didn’t flee. They planned it.

The roles were clear:
● 13-year-old driving
● 11-year-old in the front seat, waving a gun
● Two 15-year-olds in the backseat—one recording it all
A voice on the video said:
“Just bump him, brah…”
The driver asked, “Like bump him?”
The reply: “Yeah, just bump him. Go like… 15… 20.”
Moments later, Scott was gone.
No remorse. No rescue. No soul.
Just likes, reposts, and courtroom dates.

We’re not dealing with “bad kids.” We’re dealing with unchecked behavior that’s been enabled by a system that refuses to evolve. These aren’t accidents—they’re executions in miniature. And we, the adults, the lawmakers, the voters—we’re complicit.
We are beyond failing our children.
We are raising trigger-happy spectators who treat death like content.
We are unleashing them—unparented, unbothered, and fully armed—into a world they are not ready for, but still destroying. The question is no longer “Where are the parents?” It’s “Where are the consequences?”
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham called the crime “an appalling and heartbreaking reminder of the serious juvenile crime crisis we face.” She’s pushing for tougher penalties—including trying
violent teens as adults—and no, it’s not still not enough!
This isn’t a glitch in the system.
It is the system.

This isn’t a one-off. It’s a warning.
According to the CDC and FBI data:
● Juvenile gun violence is up nearly 40% since 2020.
● Youth car theft is up 25% in New Mexico alone.
● Nearly 80% of gun deaths involving minors come from guns not locked or secured properly.
And yet we’re still acting shocked—
● still handing out weapons with less oversight than a driver’s license,
● still crying “Second Amendment” while children treat murder like a challenge,
● still tossing out re-arms like party favors and calling it freedom.

Raise hell at your school board, your city council, your dinner table.
Enough is enough.
Let’s stop pretending “gun safety” is a buzzword and start treating it like the national emergency it is.
If you want to own a gun in America, let’s start here:
● Must Be 21 to Own a Firearm — 26 if You’re Still on Your Parent’s Insurance
Childhood ends at 18. Firearm access begins at 21—after you’ve proven you’re trained, stable, and prepared. No exceptions. And if you’re not even responsible enough to pay for your own insurance, your priorities are backwards. Why are you trying to own a firearm if you can’t even own your adulthood?
● Mandatory 16-Week College-Level Course
No shortcuts. No weekend workshops. A semester-long course with attendance required.
Learn the mechanics, the law, crisis intervention, and trauma awareness..
● Psychological Exam BEFORE Enrollment
Not a checkbox. A comprehensive psych evaluation—just like for law enforcement or the military. And yes, you pay for it. That’s your tuition into gun ownership.
● Course Materials, Manuals & Fees
You want to own a $2,000 rifle? Then you can afford the books, manuals, and test fees to understand how not to kill someone with it.
● Final Exam—Randomized Every Semester
No memorized cheat sheets. No test prep hacks. You pass or you start over. Full class. Full psych. Every single time.
● Yearly Mental Health Re-Certication
Like a driver’s license or CPR card—you stay current or surrender your weapons. Mental fitness isn’t permanent. Neither is your access.
● Biometric Gun Safe Required by Law
No safe? No gun. Period. Every firearm must be stored in a certified fingerprint-locked safe.
Homes are subject to 48-hour inspection notices. Want a gun? Secure it.
● Firearm Liability Insurance
If your gun is stolen, borrowed, or misused—you’re liable. Just like car insurance. If you didn’t lock it up, you own the damage.
● Gun Offender Public Registry
If your weapon ends up in the hands of a child, or used in a crime, you go on a national public registry. Just like sex oenders. Yes—your neighbors will know.
● No “Inherited” Gun Loopholes
Grandpa’s shotgun? Great. Now take the class, pass the exam, and get certified. If you can’t, you don’t keep it. And don’t forget—you still have to be 21.
● State-Specific Certication Required
Every state has its own laws? Good. Then pass the test in every state where you plan to own or carry a gun. This isn’t a road trip. Don’t carry your weapon across state lines like it’s luggage. If you can’t pass their test, you don’t get to pack heat there. Yes, you will need to pay
for testing there, as well.
Because the problem with guns in America isn’t just who owns them—it’s how easily they’re handed
out.
If you’re not mentally, emotionally, and educationally prepared to complete a full semester course, pass
a psychological screening, and ace a final exam, then maybe you’re not prepared to own something that
can end a life in under a second.
This isn’t a war on rights—it’s a plea for responsibility. So, let’s stop romanticizing access, and start
demanding it.
And if you think this doesn’t affect you— ask Scott Habermehl’s family if they feel the same.
